Interim notice, version 0.11, 18 Oct 2026, pending FORE's final text

This notice describes how the website works today. FORE is preparing the final text; when it is approved it will replace this page, and the version and date above will change.

The School of Vedic Sciences is an initiative of FORE (Foundation for Organisational Research and Education), New Delhi. This notice explains what this website collects, why it does so, and what you can do about it.

Using the site without an account

You can read the panchang, festival pages and the Shunya library, and use the calculators, without signing in.

When you calculate a kundli, a nakshatra or a matching comparison without signing in, you first tick a consent box. Your birth date, time and place are then sent to our calculation service only to work out the chart. They are not saved in our database and are not written to our logs.

If you start a chart and then sign in, the details you typed may be kept in your own browser tab (session storage) so you do not have to type them again. They are cleared when you close the tab.

The site shows no advertising. It loads no analytics or tracking script unless you accept analytics cookies (see “Cookies, analytics and spam protection” below). Apart from remembering that choice, it sets no cookie unless you sign in.

Your browser keeps a note of the page you arrived on, the referring site and any campaign tags in the link, in session storage for that tab only. If you send one of our forms, this note goes with it so the admissions team knows how you found us.

Admissions forms

The apply, callback, brochure and interest forms ask for your name and mobile number, and optionally your email. The application also asks for your city, occupation, age band, prior study of Jyotish, preferred mode, why you want to join and how you heard about us.

With each form we record which consent boxes you ticked, the version of the notice you saw, the time, a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) and your browser’s user-agent string.

We use these details only to handle your admissions enquiry. They are seen by FORE’s admissions team and, when it is connected, copied to FORE’s admissions records system. Acknowledgement emails are sent through Zoho ZeptoMail.

The two required boxes are consent to be contacted about admissions and a declaration that you are 18 or older. The other boxes (WhatsApp messages, email updates, news of programmes and lectures, the brochure on WhatsApp) start unticked and are optional.

Accounts and sign-in

You sign in with a six-digit code sent to your email or, for an Indian mobile number, by WhatsApp. There is no password. The code lasts 10 minutes and we keep only a one-way hash of it.

Your account holds your email or mobile number, the name you give, your language and your panchang city.

Signing in sets two cookies. fsvs_session keeps you signed in; it cannot be read by the page and expires after 30 days without a visit. fsvs_signed_in holds only the value 1, so the page knows to show your saved people; it holds no personal data. Signing out removes both.

Cookies, analytics and spam protection

Necessary cookies: fsvs_session and fsvs_signed_in when you sign in (see “Accounts and sign-in”), and fsvs_consent once you answer the cookie banner. fsvs_consent holds only your choice, the banner version, a random id and the date; it lasts 6 months and holds no personal data.

Analytics, if enabled: when visitor analytics is switched on for this site, a banner asks first, and nothing is loaded before you answer. Only if you choose “Accept analytics” does the site load Google Analytics 4, a Google service. It then counts page views: the page address without anything after “?” or “#” (with account and report numbers masked), the page title (a neutral label on account, form and calculator pages), the site you came from, and the browser, device, language and approximate location that Google works out from the visit. Google signals and advertising features are off. The site sends Google no other event, and never your name, mobile number, email, anything you type into a form, or birth details. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_… on this site for up to 6 months.

If you choose “Reject”, nothing from Google is loaded. You can change your choice at any time from “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page; withdrawing consent stops the counting and deletes the _ga cookies. Each answer to the banner is recorded without any personal data (the random id, the choice, the banner version, the language and the page), so that we can show that consent was asked.

Spam protection, if enabled: when it is switched on, the admissions forms, sign-in and the calculators use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a program, is sending them. The check usually needs no click. It sends Cloudflare technical information from your browser and your IP address; it cannot see what you type into the form, and it sets no cookie on this site.

Saved charts and reports

When you are signed in, each calculation you run creates a report in your account so that you can come back to it. A report holds the chart, its explanation, and the name, birth date, time and place you entered. Its title, summary and content are encrypted in our database with the same key as saved charts, which is kept outside the database. What is stored as it is: the kind of report (for example “Kundli”), its language and dates, and a one-way hash of the birth details made with that key, not the details themselves.

A chart is also saved to My charts when you tick “save”. The birth date, time and coordinates of a saved chart are encrypted in our database, and the key is kept outside the database. The chart’s label, the place name and the calculated positions are stored as they are, so that we can list your charts.

Consent record: when you save a chart to your account we record that you consented to keeping the birth details (the purpose, the version of this notice, the time, a one-way hash of your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string). The record holds no birth details and is kept as evidence even if you later delete the chart.

A child’s chart: if the birth date of a chart you save gives an age under 18 on the day you save it, you are asked to confirm that you are the child’s parent or legal guardian and that you consent to saving the details. Without that declaration the chart is not saved. We record the declaration with your account (that it was given, the version of its wording, the time, a one-way hash of your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string) and mark the chart as a child’s. The same declaration is asked once before a new report is made from a child’s chart saved before 17 October 2026. If you do not save a child’s chart and give no declaration, you still see the result, but nothing is kept: no chart and no report is stored in your account. A calculation run without signing in stores nothing, so it asks for no declaration. A child’s chart can be deleted from My charts at any time like any other; the record of the declaration, which holds no birth details, is kept as evidence that consent was given.

You can delete any saved chart at any time from My charts; this erases its encrypted birth details. You can also delete any single report from its own page in your account; the report and its encrypted content are erased. If a consultation you booked with a faculty member uses that report, the booking keeps a record that the report existed, without its content. All your reports are erased when you delete your account (see below).

Some explanatory paragraphs are drafted by a language model through OpenRouter. The model receives only the calculated positions and periods of the chart, not your name, email, mobile number or place of birth, and it does no calculation.

Payments

PDF reports are one-time purchases. Memberships cover one month or one year from the day of payment and nothing renews automatically. Prices are shown in rupees and include GST.

Payments are handled by Razorpay. We do not see or store card, UPI or bank details. We keep the order reference, the product, the amount and its GST share.

While this interim notice is in force, checkout runs in test mode and no real payment is taken.

Messages from the School

We message you on WhatsApp or by email only for the purposes you agreed to: your enquiry, the brochure, updates, or the daily panchang you switch on in Settings. You can switch the daily panchang off in the same place, and you can withdraw any other consent by writing to us.

See, download or delete your data

Signed-in users can download a copy of what their account holds from Settings, under “Your data”.

In the same place you can delete your account. This erases your saved charts and their encrypted birth details, your reports, the daily panchang and reminders, and ends every session. The account itself is kept only as an anonymised record with no name, email or mobile number. Order records are kept because accounting law requires it; they no longer carry your name or contact details.

Enquiries sent through the admissions forms are held separately by the admissions team. To have them corrected or deleted, send a request through the contact form and give the mobile number you used.

How long we keep data

The birth details of a calculation run without an account are not kept at all; we record only which tool was used, how long it took and the language. FORE has not yet approved fixed retention periods for enquiries and accounts; until it does, they are kept until you ask us to delete them. The final notice will state the periods.

Age and security

The admissions forms are for people aged 18 or over and ask you to confirm this. If you save a chart for someone else, do so only with their agreement. A child’s chart (under 18) can be saved only by a parent or legal guardian, who confirms this when saving it (see Saved charts and reports).

The site is served over HTTPS. Birth details in saved charts and reports are encrypted, IP addresses are stored only as one-way hashes, and sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only as hashes.

Questions and grievances

Write to us through the contact form. The admissions team passes requests about personal data to FORE. FORE’s final notice will name a grievance contact.
