2033

Saturday, 2 April 2033

In 2033 the tithi runs from 4:24 pm on 1 Apr to 1:30 pm on 2 Apr; it is running at sunrise (the usual rule, called udaya tithi) on Saturday, 2 April 2033, so that is the day of Gangaur.

2034

Wednesday, 22 March 2034

In 2034 the tithi runs from 9:00 am on 22 Mar to 5:39 am on 23 Mar, and it never reaches sunrise (the usual rule, called udaya tithi), so the day on which it begins is taken: Wednesday, 22 March 2034.

How the date is fixed

Gangaur falls on the third day of the bright half of the lunar month Chaitra (Shukla Tritiya). The date is the day on which that tithi is running at sunrise (the usual rule, called udaya tithi).

About

Gangaur falls on the third tithi of the bright half of Chaitra, in March or April, and closes a worship of Gauri (Parvati) and Isar (Shiva) that begins on the day after Holi and runs for about eighteen days. The tithi at sunrise is taken. Women keep the days with songs and clay images of Gauri and Isar, and on Gangaur the images are carried in procession to a lake or well; the processions at Jaipur and Udaipur are the best known.

How it is observed

A fast, worship of clay images of Gauri and Isar with songs, and the procession of the images to water on the last day.
