Śatru

शत्रु

Enmity between grahas; a graha placed in an enemy's sign.

Definition

Śatru ('enemy') is the opposite of mitra in the scheme of graha relationships. In BPHS's natural table, for example, Venus and Saturn are enemies of the Sun, and the Sun and Moon are enemies of Saturn; between friend and enemy lies sama, neutral. A graha in an enemy's sign is counted as weaker in dignity, and enmity between the Moon-sign lords lowers the graha-maitrī score.
