The Sun: soul, vitality, father and authority.
Definition
Sūrya, the Sun, is the first of the nine grahas and is called the ātmā (soul) of the kālapuruṣa in BPHS. The texts assign to it vitality, the father, kingship and government; it rules Siṃha, is exalted in Meṣa and debilitated in Tulā. Its Vimśottarī daśā lasts six years.
