Ṛtucaryā

ऋतुचर्या

Seasonal regimen described in the Āyurvedic texts.

Definition

Ṛtucaryā ('seasonal conduct') is the regimen for each of the six seasons described in Aṣṭāṅga Hṛdaya Sūtrasthāna 3 and Caraka Saṃhitā Sūtrasthāna 6. The texts divide the year into ādāna kāla (the Sun's northward course, when strength is drawn away) and visarga kāla (the southward course, when it is given back), and relate the accumulation of each doṣa to the seasons. This reference presents it as textual history.
