Śikṣā

Śikṣā is the Vedāṅga of phonetics, concerned with the correct articulation of sounds, pitch accent (svara), quantity and the rules of recitation. Its doctrine is preserved in the Prātiśākhyas, phonetic treatises attached to particular Vedic schools, and in short texts such as the Pāṇinīya Śikṣā. It underlies the precise oral transmission of the Vedas.
