Yoga (of the pañcāṅga)

योग

Everyday Hindi: योग (पंचांग)

Panchanga limb from the sum of solar and lunar longitudes.

Definition

The pañcāṅga yoga is found by adding the sidereal longitudes of the Sun and the Moon and dividing the sum into twenty-seven parts of 13°20′. The twenty-seven yogas run from Viṣkambha to Vaidhṛti, and almanacs mark some, such as Vyatīpāta and Vaidhṛti, as unsuitable for beginning undertakings. It is one of the five limbs of the pañcāṅga and is distinct from a yoga in a birth chart.
