Bhadrā (Viṣṭi karaṇa)
भद्रा
The Viṣṭi karaṇa, marked in almanacs as unsuitable for beginnings.
Definition
Bhadrā is the popular name of Viṣṭi, the seventh movable karaṇa, which recurs eight times in each lunar month. Muhūrta texts list it among the times not chosen for auspicious beginnings, and later practice locates Bhadrā in heaven, the netherworld or the earthly realm according to the Moon's sign, counting only the last as relevant. Its timing is shown in most almanacs.
