Bhāva calita

भावचलित

Everyday Hindi: भाव चलित

House chart drawn from house mid-points rather than whole signs.

Definition

The bhāva calita ('shifted houses') chart places grahas in houses measured from the bhāva madhya (mid-point of each house) instead of by whole signs, so a graha near a boundary may fall in a different house than in the rasi chart. The Śrīpati method, from the 11th-century Śrīpati Paddhati, divides each quadrant between the Lagna and the meridian into thirds to find the house mid-points. Comparing the Bhav Chalit and Rasi charts is a module of the School's Certificate Programme in Predictive Astrology.
