Bṛhajjātaka

बृहज्जातक

Varāhamihira's classical treatise on natal astrology.

Definition

The Bṛhajjātaka ('great work on nativities') is Varāhamihira's treatise on horā, in about twenty-eight chapters of compact verse. It covers the signs and grahas, strength, longevity, the Nābhasa and lunar yogas, aṣṭakavarga and the effects of placements, and it is cited throughout later horā literature. Bhaṭṭotpala's commentary is the classical aid to its often terse verses.
