Maṅgala doṣa (Kuja doṣa)

Maṅgala doṣa (Kuja doṣa) is the placement of Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house counted from the Lagna, and in many traditions also from the Moon and, in southern practice, from Venus. It belongs to later compatibility manuals rather than to BPHS, and those manuals list several exceptions, such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign or aspected by Jupiter. By simple counting it applies to a large share of all charts, which is one reason the exceptions receive so much attention.
